Van Buren--- Agatha M. Chabre, 91, entered into rest peacefully Sunday, October 29, 2017. She was born August 15, 1926 in Cyr Plt., a daughter of the late Bruno and Anne (Madore) Gagnon.
Agatha worked many years at the Van Buren Community Hospital in the Central Supply and Housekeeping Departments. She was a life parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Evangeline Circle, and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Since becoming a resident at Borderview Rehab & Living Center, she enjoyed playing cards with two special friends, Verna & Lillian, along with weekly bingo and bowling. She so enjoyed laughing and joking around with the nursing home staff. She cherished her children's many visits and loved to shop in area stores.
She is survived by: three sons, Raymond Chabre and his wife Ann of Hermon, Vernon Chabre and his wife Leona of Glenburn, and Rodney Chabre of Cyr Plt.; four daughters, Charlene Elmblad of Van Buren, Barbara Ladue and her husband Bob of So. Carolina, Doreen Ayotte and her husband Scott of Hamlin, and Geraldine Whidden and her husband Charlie of Van Buren; two sisters, Omerine Gendreau and Claire Labreque, all of Connecticut; 18 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews
Besides her parents, Agatha is predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Adrian Chabre in 1977, an infant son Gerald in 1952, a son Donald in 1998, and 16 siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Saturday morning, 8:30-9:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Agatha's name may be made to: Borderview Rehab& Living Ctr.- Activity Dept., 208 State Street, Van Buren, ME 04785.
