Madawaska – Agnes Daigle Beaulieu, 93, of Madawaska passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the Highview Rehabilitation Center in Madawaska. Born on June 9, 1924 in Saint David, Maine, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Jalbert) Daigle, Agnes graduated from Madawaska High School as Salutatorian in 1942, after which she worked as a secretary in the main office of Fraser Papers, Inc. in Madawaska. In 1945, she married J. Cyril Beaulieu and settled in Grand Isle, Maine where Cyril had founded the Grand Isle Creamery in 1939. After the Grand Isle Creamery burned to the ground in 1950, the family relocated to Madawaska, Maine in 1951 where Cyril owned and operated the Saint John Valley Creamery, adding Brunswick Beverages as a product line a few years later. In Madawaska, Agnes led an active life of service to her church and community as Cub Scout leader, member of the Saint David Church Legion of Mary, Confraternity if Christian Doctrine (CCD) teacher, member of the initial Board of Trustees for the Madawaska Public Library, active with the Madawaska Historical Society and one of the original organizers of Le Club Francais, now the Center for Acadian Culture. She is perhaps best remembered as the Acadia School Librarian where she nurtured many students in the art of reading, bringing books alive by frequently dressing as well-known characters. In addition, she served for several years as a hospice volunteer. For over a decade, she ensured that the three altars at Saint David Church were adorned with fresh flowers and that the altar linens were cleaned and pressed on a weekly basis. After she and Cyril retired to Long Lake, they were communicants of the Our Lady of the Valley Church in St. Agatha where she continued to be involved in church activities. In later years, they were members of the St. Thomas Aquinas parish. Agnes was pre-deceased by her husband Cyril of 66 years in 2012. Survivors include her son Daniel of San Francisco, California, his wife Kathy and their son John Charles; her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Beaulieu (wife of Alfred) and her daughter Sarah of Bangor, Maine; her daughter Cecilia Rhoda of Houlton, Maine her husband Richard and their son Leslie; her son Jon of Annandale, Virginia, his wife Wanda and their daughter Michele and her husband, Ian Hooper of Frankfurt, Germany, her daughter Claudette Greene of Portland, Maine and her children, Charles and Jody of Washington, DC and her sister, Therese Sartain of Corinth, MS. Agnes was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Katherine, Rebecca, Nicholas and Jonathon Hooper. She was also pre-deceased by her sisters Rita and Berthe, Her Brothers Wilfred, Paul and Reno, her son Alfred in 1991, her son-in-law Donald Greene on 9/11/2001, and her grandsons Daniel Rhoda in 2013 and Philip Beaulieu in 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the St. David Catholic Church in Madawaska, Maine followed by burial in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives may greet Agnes' family on Saturday, October 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 – 10th Ave., Madawaska, ME 04756. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the High View Manor Rehabilitation Center Social Activities Committee, 517 Riverview Street, Madawaska, Maine 04756 or to Catholic Charities of Maine, c/o Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 10th Ave., Madawaska, ME 04756.
