Van Buren---Alyre J. Dumont, 89, passed away on January 8, 2014 at a Caribou health care facility. He was born in Van Buren on November 8, 1924, son of the late Hubert and Anastasia (Lausier) Dumont. Alyre was a veteran of World War II, and was at the Normandy Landing in France. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post #49 of Van Buren as well as volunteer fireman in Van Buren. He retired after twenty two years of civil service working at Loring Air Force Base as an electrician. He is survived by four daughters, Carol Cyr of Madawaska, Linda Dumont of Bristol, CT, Donna Hill of Henderson, KY, Vicky Schaeffer of Bristol, CT; three sons, John Dumont of Madawaska, Dave Dumont and his wife Lori of Brewer, Mark Dumont of Madawaska; eleven grandchildren, Carla, Cheryl, Mark, Amanda, Jason, Corey, Carrie, Kristen, Derek, Amy, and Crystal; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Ernestine Doucette of Van Buren, Germaine Aldrich of Hartford, CT. Alyre was predeceased by all five of his brothers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the St. Bruno/St. Remi Church in Van Buren. Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home, Inc, 118 High St, Van Buren from 6-8pm on Monday, and from 9:30am until 10:30am on Tuesday before the service.
