IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann
Clavette
July 11, 1931 – February 26, 2023
Ann M. Clavette, 91, entered God's loving sanctuary in a joyous reunion with her parents and siblings on February 26, 2023, at a health care facility in Frenchville. She was born July 11, 1931, in Fort Kent, Maine, the daughter of the late Joseph (Willie) and Eugenie (Poirier) Clavette. Ann's life was defined by faith, family and service to her church, community, and country. She enlisted in the Navy in 1952 and served as a communications specialist in Italy until 1956. Having enjoyed traveling in Europe during her time in the military, Ann sought and received appointment to the US State Department Foreign Service section, embarking on what would become twenty-five years of service in the United States Embassies around the globe, including in chronological order: Saudi Arabia, Burma (Myanmar), Togo, Bulgaria, England, Sierra Leone, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Costa Rica, the Soviet Union, and Germany. Ann grew up in a family and region where French was the primary language. That fluency served her well during her years abroad, especially in the African assignments. Ann used her time off to travel, visiting more than twenty other countries across Europe and Asia. A woman of deep Catholic faith, Ann made a trip to the Holy Land and experienced Nazareth, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and the Dead Sea. Upon her retirement in 1982, Ann returned home to Fort Kent to a home she built for herself and her mother; and continued to support her as she had for her parents in their final years. She turned her attention to family and community, seeking whenever possible to spend time with her siblings, nieces and nephews and giving of her time and talents to the St. Louis Catholic Church in numerous roles, including many years as sacristan and in the choir (she had a beautiful singing voice!). Ann volunteered for the Hospice of Aroostook County and in the Oncology Center of Northern Maine. She also worked for twenty years as an election clerk for the Town of Fort Kent. Ann is survived by her devoted sister-in-law, Anita (Sirois) Clavette of Fort Kent, who was entrusted with her care for the past few years, and many nieces and nephews. Ann, the youngest of 8 children, was pre-deceased by her parents and her siblings Alice O'Keefe, Lorette Clavette, Toussaint Clavette, Jeanne Martin, Yvette Barr, Annette Clavette, Thomas Clavette, and by nephews Raymond O'Keefe and Roger Martin. With no children of her own, "Matante Ann" took deep pride in each of her 17 nieces and nephews and their accomplishments. She enjoyed the numerous Clavette family reunions, gatherings that were instilled and inspired by her mother. Ann is survived by nieces and nephews Pat O'Keefe, Michael O'Keefe, Bridget Condon, Dianne Hanlon, Philip Clavette, Jolene Swett, Joseph Martin, Lorraine Lessard, Gisele Carey, Loretta Dumond, Denise Clavette, Margaret Shuhart, Andre Clavette, Daniel Clavette and Nicole Devine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, March 6, 2023 at St. John Vianney Parish, at the St. Louis Church, Fort Kent, Maine. Family and friends may call at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home from 8 am until 9:30 am on Monday before the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ann's memory may be made to a local food pantry of one's choice. For a live stream of Ann's funeral service, please visit http://www.wfktv-4.com/
