Obituary

Madawaska---It is with profound sadness, yet with gratitude for a life beautifully lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Anne F. Deschaine, on October 6, 2026, at the age of 97, at a local health facility in Madawaska, Maine. Anne was born on August 7, 1929, in St. Basile, New Brunswick, Canada, to Aimé and Olive (Clavet) Fournier. Growing up near the St. Basile Convent, she developed a deep and abiding Catholic faith and was encouraged by "Les soeurs" to develop her God-given talents. Music was both Anne's profession and her ministry. For more than 50 years, she faithfully served as a church organist in several St. John Valley parishes and as choir director at St. Thomas Aquinas. Anne was also proud of her years as a member of The Rhythm Kings during the 1960s and early 1970s. In her retirement, she brought joy to residents of nursing and boarding homes by volunteering her musical talent. When she moved into a nursing home herself, Anne insisted that her piano come with her-and it did. In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Reginald Deschaine; her three sons, Ghislain, Marcel, and Lucien; her daughter-in-law, Carol (Poulin); and her son- in-law, Dan Caldwell. She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Doris Mai Caldwell of Texas and Rejeanne (Roger) Martin of St. David, her son, Lionel (Joyce) Deschaine of Florida; her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the St. David Church. Relatives and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home to offer their condolences on Tuesday from 8:30am until 9:30am before the Mass. Interment will be held in the Parish Cemetery immediately following the Mass. The Deschaine family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at Highview Manor and Northern Light Hospice for their exceptional care, kindness, and support. In lieu flowers, contributions in Anne’s memory may be made to the Highview Manor Activity Department, 517 Riverview St., Madawaska, ME 04756.

Anne's song has not ended-it has simply joined the heavenly choir.
