IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Antoine A.
Guerrette
January 1, 1927 – December 11, 2022
Antoine A. Guerrette, 95, passed away on December 11, 2022, in Dover, New Hampshire surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Madawaska on January 1, 1927, the son of the late Irenee and Josephine (Dufour) Guerrette. Antoine was pre-deceased by his loving wife Martha (Albert) Guerrette. He is survived by four children, Ann and husband Steve Burns of Bar Harbor, Luke and wife Gail of Wells, Susan and husband David Stadvec of Rochester, New Hampshire and Tom and companion Jane of Levant; 7 grandchildren, Kristin Cook (Kevin) of Williston, Vermont, Julie McFarland (Jason) of Scarborough, Jonathan (Tanille) of Pullman, Washington, Janna Stadvec (Connor) of Weare, New Hampshire, Emily Stadvec of Whitefish, Montana, Matthew Guerrette of Bangor and Nicholas Guerrette of Levant; 6 great grandchildren, Owen, Benjamin, Hadley, Parker, Huxley and Bo. Also surviving Antoine is his brother J. Chanel Guerrette (Carlene) of Barefoot Bay, Florida and many nieces and nephews. After returning from his tour of duty in the Army in Germany at the end of World War II, Antoine attended barber school and was a part-time barber nights and weekends. He also trained and found full time employment working as a Produce Inspector for the State of Maine which he did for 30 years until his retirement. This job required long hours and much travel to both ends of the St. John Valley and throughout Aroostook County. He also spent a year inspecting produce in Lincoln, Maine and also on Long Island, New York. He married his true love, childhood friend and classmate, Martha Albert, and together they settled in St. David and raised a family. They were together for 68 years until her death in June 2021. Antoine was dedicated to his family. He instilled strong family values: always work hard; be patient, tolerant and giving; always have faith in God. He provided much love and support to his children as they were growing up. Antoine's greatest joys were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They meant the world to him. Antoine loved a good cribbage game. He taught his children and grandchildren the game, and the cribbage board was always in use at every family gathering. Antoine and Martha also enjoyed socializing with their friends and siblings, sharing laughter and playing cards. After retirement, Antoine enjoyed his daily walks no matter the weather; he also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, sharing the abundant produce with neighbors and friends. He and Martha enjoyed traveling when they could and enjoyed the annual lake house family gatherings every summer. At his core, he was kind, compassionate and giving. He was an enthusiastic volunteer, devoting immeasurable time to the St. David Parish: Parish Council, Choir, Knights of Columbus and many church events. He served on the Board of Directors for the local nursing home. Antoine will be greatly missed, but the endless memories will always be treasured. The family would like to thank the many caregivers at The Residence at Silver Square in Dover, New Hampshire and Amedisys / Hospice of Somersworth, New Hampshire who provided kindness and support to Antoine and the family over the past two and a half years; we are profoundly grateful. A Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the St. David Church. Relatives and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home in Madawaska from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. For those who wish, a memorial contribution may be made to the St. David Church, 309 St. Thomas Ave, Madawaska, ME 04756 or to a charity of your choice in memory of Antoine.
