Obituary

Madawaska---Surrounded by the love of her children, Antoinette Martin, 88, passed away on June 8, 2012 at a Madawaska health care facility. She was born on August 27, 1923, the daughter of the late Alsime and Egline (Rossignol) Lagasse in Frenchville, where she also attended school. On April 9, 1942, she married Lewis Martin in St. Luce Church in Frenchville, and for forty years, she remained his loving wife until his death on August 25, 1982. As a young woman, "Toinette" worked at the Daughters of Wisdom Convent in Madawaska. She was a wonderful homemaker and seamstress. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting for family, friends, LL.Bean, and those less fortunate in shelters and orphanages. She loved to ballroom dance and playing cards with her lady friends. A life-long communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Madawaska, Antoinette was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, St. Thomas Circle 546, Les Dames de Ste. Anne, and the French choir for twenty three years. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her sister Therese Pelletier. She is survived by her sister, Blandine Hussey and her husband Wesley of Austin, TX; her brother, Conrad Lagasse and his wife Helen of Fayetteville, PA; her children, Claudette Martin of St. Quentin, NB., Canada, Pauline (Mrs. Douglas) Giroux of Madawaska, Louis-Philip Martin of Madawaska, Louise (Mrs. Claude) Cyr of Charles Town, WV, and Cecile Martin of Madawaska; three grandchildren, Michel, Josee, and Jennifer who called her "Memere"; and seven great-grandchildren, Elise, Gabriele, Pascal, Maxime, Abigael, Gabriel, and Iyrelyn who called her "Mimi". A Mass in celebration of her life will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Madawaska on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 10am, with her son, Louis-Philip, playing the organ and her son-in-law, Douglas Giroux as Tenor soloist singing Franz Schubert's Opus 52, "Ave Maria" and Robert Lebel's "A Ma Mere", (psaume 139). In lieu of flowers, those who wish can make donations in Antoinette's memory to the St. Thomas Aquinas Memorial Fund. Those who wish to pay their respects to the family may do so at the church at 9am. Interment will be in the family lot in the St. David Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home.
