Martin
March 1, 1919 – August 31, 2024
Madawaska--- Armand J. Martin, 105, passed away August 31, 2024, at a Fort Kent hospital following a short illness. He was born March 1, 1919, in Frenchville, a son of the late Gilbert and Rose (Ouellette) Martin.
Armand proudly serviced in the US Army in Newport, RI, from 1941-1945. He was acknowledged and honored as an active member for over 80 years with the American Legion, Post #147, Madawaska. At the age of 100, he was honored to go to Washington, DC, as part of the Freedom Honor Flights of Maine. It was one of the most memorable events of his life and was accompanied by his grandson, Eric Martin.
Armand was employed for 37 years at Fraser Paper in Madawaska. He was also a seasonal employee of the US Postal Service for many years and worked part time at Madawaska's former Kmart. An avid reader, Armand was a frequent visitor of the Madawaska Public Library, and he enjoyed hunting during his younger years.
He is survived by his children, Philip Martin and his wife Gloria of Madawaska, Phyllis St. Amant and her husband Louis of Durham, NC, and Roger Martin and his wife Rejeanne of Madawaska; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; stepchildren, Carl Cyr and his wife Carmen of Edmundston, NB, Mark Cyr and his wife Giselle of Longwood, FL; one sister, Fernande Michaud of Madawaska; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Armand was predeceased by his first wife of 36 years, Yvette (Michaud) Martin in 1981, his second wife of 32 years, Yvette (Cyr) Martin in 2014, his children, Kenneth Gene Martin and his wife Linda, and David Martin, one grandson, Neil St. Amant, four brothers, Fernand, Richard, Gerard, and Norman Martin, and three sisters, Theresa Cyr, Carmen Ouellette, and Claire Pelletier.
The family of Armand Martin wish to thank the staff of Country Village Estates for the excellent care they provided during his stay.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, September 9, 2024, at St. David Church, St. David. Relatives and friends may greet the family Monday morning 8:30- 9:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114-10th Ave., Madawaska. Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
