Obituary

Arthur Lionel Faucher, 72, passed away peacefully at home on February 16, 2025, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. He was born in Grand Isle, Maine on April 12, 1952, in the heart of a loving family, the son of Conrad Francis Faucher and Anita (Chasse) Faucher.  Arthur is survived by his siblings, Françoise (Robert) Cyr of Plainville CT, Michael (Doreen) Faucher of Hollis ME, Marie (George) Francis of South Hadley MA, and uncle, John Faucher of Montreal PQ. He was a devoted father to his children, son, Grégoire and daughter, Anna-Sophie, and cherished the bond with his former wife, Gisèle Dionne, with whom he shared 28 years of marriage. Arthur was also beloved by several cousins and in-laws, and many special nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss his presence deeply.  Arthur served our country overseas during the Vietnam War. Though his time in Vietnam was a difficult and painful chapter in his life, Arthur never wavered in his pride for serving his country. He carried a deep sense of duty and honor, which fueled his lifelong commitment to helping fellow veterans. Whether through advocacy, offering a listening ear, or simply sharing his experience, he was an incredibly resilient man and steadfast supporter of those who wore the uniform. His compassion for others was evident in everything he did.  Arthur's academic journey saw him graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Geography from New Mexico State University and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Husson University. He was committed to public service throughout his career, serving as Community Development Director in Monticello and Fort Kent, Maine, and as Town Manager in Madawaska and Wiscasset, Maine. Arthur's final professional chapter was for the Department of Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS), where he made many close friends and played a key role in helping many St. John Valley residents gain meaningful employment.  Arthur was a member of the Grand Isle Knights of Columbus and the Madawaska American Legion.  The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the many friends and family members who assisted in his care and comfort, his neuro-oncology team at Maine Medical Center, Northern Light Home Care & Hospice, and the staff and friends at Birchwoods at Canco. Arthur formed meaningful connections during his time in Southern Maine, where he spent nearly three years following his diagnosis. He made lasting friendships, and those who knew him there will fondly remember his resilience and warmth.  Arthur will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to public service, sense of humor, and the enduring love he shared with his family and friends. His memory will continue to live on in the lives he touched and the many who were privileged to know him.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 22 at 10am, at St Gerard Church in Grand Isle, ME. Visitation will be Friday, February 21st from 6-8pm at Lajoie Funeral Home in Madawaska, ME. There will be no visitation on Saturday before the Mass.
