Madawaska---Arthur E. Foss, 82, died July 9, 2010 at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born in Dover-Foxcroft on May 14, 1928, the son of Eugene and Blanche (Hanscom) Foss. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 147 of Madawaska. He graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, ME after serving in the Navy for four years. Art joined the Navy after his junior year in high school and went back to finish his education after he was honorably discharged. After graduation he learned of possible employment at Fraser Papers in Madawaska, so he decided to apply for a job. He worked thirty three years in the boiler house (power plant) at Fraser's until he retired. He enjoyed tremendously hunting and fishing with his friends and was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, and particularly the New York Yankees. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Art is survived by his beloved wife of thirty seven years, Juliette (Labbe) Foss; his sister-in-law, Betty Jessome and her children, Frances LeBrun, Michael Jessome, Debbie Jessome, Peter Paul Jessome, and Julie Ann Jessome; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was the last survivor of his immediate family. A Funeral Service will be held 10am on Wednesday, July 14 at Lajoie Funeral Home. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 9am until time of service on Wednesday. Interment will immediately follow in the parish cemetery.
