Obituary

Madawaska---It is with great sadness that our matriarch, Bernadette Nadeau, passed away peacefully after a short stay at Northern Maine Medical Center on April 29, 2023, at the age of 92. She was born in Baker Brook, NB, Canada on August 30, 1930, the daughter of Joseph Pinette and Delphine (Cloutier) Pinette. In addition to being a housewife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was also a teacher in Canada, teaching many different grade levels and subjects. After retirement, she and her husband, Martin, spent twenty-one years in Florida as snowbirds, where she spent time golfing, spending time with friends, and perusing flea markets. A kind-hearted and generous soul, she was an avid baker, loved to cook for family, and was a great caregiver to her husband, Martin, for many years. Her family was her pride and joy, and her faith in God steered her in every aspect of her life. Bernadette is survived by six children: daughter, Denise Arvai and husband, James; son, Marc and wife, Jocelyn; daughter, Louise; son, Jean and wife, Sharon; daughter, Lynn Oakes and husband, Daniel; and daughter, Monique. She is survived by twenty-five grandchildren: Peter, Alan, Amanda, Sarah, Jamie, Nicholas, Courtney, Jacob, Joseph, Eben, Samantha, Hannah, Andrew, Elise, Sophie, Annie, Megan, Nathan, Nichole, Natalie, Andrew, Adam, Lee, Chantel, and Megan. She is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren, one sister, Marie-Dora Pinette, and two sisters-in-law, Jeannine (Roger) Caron, and Therese (Roland) Gravel. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin, an infant daughter, Suzanne, and ten siblings. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Northern Maine Medical Center for the compassionate care given to Bernadette during her short time there. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Notre Dame du Mont Carmel, 309 St. Thomas St., Suite 103, Madawaska, ME 04756. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on July 21, 2023, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church. There will be no visiting hours.
