Obituary

Madawaska---Bernette Albert, 90 passed away December 9, 2016 at a Fort Kent health care facility.  She was born in Madawaska on January 28, 1926, daughter of the late Ambroise and Zelia (Morneault) Albert.  Bernette began her military career in the Army in 1950 and retired in 1970 having attained the rank of Major.  During her retirement, she served many years on the Madawaska School Committee.  She was also one of the founding members of the Madawaska Historical Society and was instrumental in the establishment of the model Acadian Cross in St. David.  She saw to getting the St. David Church on the National Register of historical places.  Bernette is survived by one brother, Renaud Albert of Madawaska, and several nieces and nephews.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the St. David Church.  There will be no visiting hours.  Family and friends from near and far are invited to celebrate Bernette's life.  Donations in memory of Bernette may be made to the Madawaska Historical Society, 393 Main St., Madawaska, ME 04756.
