Van Buren--- Bertrand "Bert" Levasseur, 88, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at a Caribou hospital following a brief illness. He was born August 21, 1926 in Van Buren, a son of the late Benjamin and Agnes (Cyr) Levasseur. He owned and operated former Bert's Amoco and Polaris, Van Buren, with his wife for many years, as a deliveryman with former J.J. Paradis Fuel Oil and several of the local potato farms. He was a former Van Buren Town Council Chairman and a long-time volunteer fireman. Bert was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Assembly, Council #349, Van Buren, and a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church. During his rare free time, he enjoyed snowmobiling and bowling, however, always valued a good, hard day of work. He is survived by: three sons, Jim Levasseur and his wife Marge of Fort Kent, Mike Levasseur and his wife Charline of Van Buren, and John Levasseur and his fiancé Monica Hall of Caribou; five grandchildren, Michelle, Robin, Billie-Jo, Lisa, & Katy; six great grandchildren; two great grandchildren on the way; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bert is predeceased his wife of 49 years, Rachel (Daigle) Levasseur in 1996, an infant son, Philip Levasseur, five siblings, Tony Levasseur, Bob Levasseur, Lucille Guerrette, Cecile Lavoie, Raymond Levasseur. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday 6-8:00 PM and Thursday 9-10:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
