Obituary

Madawaska---Beverly Ann (Fournier) Madore of Madawaska, ME passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2025 at the age of 88.  She was born on March 28, 1937, in Fort Kent, ME the daughter of Ray and Aline (Ouellette) Fournier.  Bev graduated from Fort Kent Community High School with honors.  She attended UMFK for one year and then pursued an education in business at Husson College.  After marrying Clifford Madore in 1957 she began her career in the business world.  In 1963, Cliff accepted an assignment as a U.S. Customs Advisor in Vientiane, Laos, where they lived until 1965.  Upon return to the U.S., Bev and Cliff settled in Madawaska where Bev informally pursued her love of teaching by initially having a pre-school in her home which was followed by substitute teaching at the junior/senior high school.  At the prompting of her superintendent, she returned to college where she graduated Summa Cum Laude earning a Bachelor's degree in Education from UMFK and later a Master's Degree from UMO.  After college she discovered her love was for the "little ones" in kindergarten and first grade.  This is where her heart was and her love for these children carried over with them into their adulthood, with many sharing that the lipstick remnants of her kiss on their cheeks was a favorite memory.  She exuded this love for teaching the "little ones" for 25 years.  Bev was very involved and active in community service.  She was the first woman elected to the Madawaska Town Council where she served for 12 years, 3 of those as the Chair.  Having four children, she also volunteered many hours as a Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, and as a ski team booster and chaperone.  She served on many boards and committees, as Cliff would say, "Too many to mention."  In 1976, she was the International Lions Club Outstanding Citizen, chosen from a field of 23 nominees.  She was one of five finalists for Maine Teacher of the Year.  She also held a position on the Governor's Commission for Women, UMFK Foundation, and served on the NMMC Board of Directors for 25 years.  Retiring after 25 years of teaching, she continued her community service and became more involved with church activities.  In 2012, she was elected to the Madawaska School Board and served on that board as Chair until 2019.  Bev was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and filled numerous duties as a server, lector, gift shop volunteer, and Eucharistic minister for her parish.  She was an active member of the Daughters of Isabella for many years.       Bev was pre-deceased by her husband, Cliff, her daughter-in-law Laurie Madore (Dan's wife), and her brother Larry Fournier.  She is also survived by her sister, Linda, and her husband John Pinette (Standish, ME), her daughter Debbie and her wife Dionne (Portland, OR), daughter Kim Martin and her husband Scott (Lisbon, ME), son Dan (Peoria, AZ), daughter Karen Driggers and her husband Jeff (Sandown, NH), and her three cherished granddaughters: Rachel Romaniuk (Madore) and her husband Marcus, Kayla Madore, and Siara Martin.  She is also survived by so many dear and beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.  Bev wanted to be remembered as a woman who loved and lived life to the fullest.  For Bev, there was no such thing as a stranger … just a friend she hadn't met yet.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday June 19th at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.  Friends and family may offer their condolences from 5 - 8pm at Lajoie Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 18th.  There will be no visiting hours on Thursday before the Mass.  Interment will be with her beloved husband at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou, ME.  A celebration of her life will take place on June 21, 2025, from 1 – 5pm at the Four Seasons Lodge in Madawaska, ME.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St Thomas Aquinas Cemetery fund in Bev's name.  Donations can be sent to 309 St. Thomas Street, Madawaska, ME 04756.  The family would love to hear your reflections of their Mom at the Lajoie Funeral Home web site (https://www.lajoiefuneralhome.com/obits) where her obituary will also be available.  To view a livestream of Mrs. Madore's funeral service, please visit: https://boxcast.tv/view/beverly-fournier-madore-funeral-sflkicm70ox2xmb6meqx
