IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl
Henderson
January 13, 1942 – July 16, 2024
Carl Geoge Henderson, known by those who loved him most as 'Grampie' or 'Grumpie', passed away peacefully on July 16th, 2024, in Fort Kent, Maine. He was born in Bangor, Maine, to Fernald Henderson and Greta McGlaughlin (Jones). He is survived by his siblings, Bob, Judy, and Patti, his wife, Becky, his daughters, and his grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Glenna, and his brother, Paul. Carl was raised in Saint Francis by his grandparents, George and Emma Jones. He was an outdoorsman and loved to canoe and bird watch. He didn't like to hunt but was always willing to help process a deer when the opportunity arose. He was a lover of black coffee, Werther's Originals, peanut butter toast, Moxie, the 'funnies', and puzzles, and an outspoken hater of chocolate. As a young man he joined the US Army and completed jump school, travelling to Japan before moving to central Maine where he met the love of his life, Becky. The two married in 1965 and moved to Connecticut and had two daughters, Holly and Heidi, before settling back in Saint Francis where they had their youngest daughter, Heather. Carl worked in the woods and had always had a long list of stories (and complaints) about his coworkers. After retiring from the logging industry, Carl continued to work in the woods as a canoe farrier, bringing adventurers to their starting points deep in the Northern Maine Woods. He liked to be able to teach 'flatlanders' about his neck of the woods. In his rare time off, he enjoyed tinkering around the house, woodworking, and playing computer Solitaire. He was a grouchy man but those who grew up around him know that he had a soft spot for his grandkids and for animals and know what an honor it was to be called his version of a "real smart feller". In the end, dementia stole a lot of Carl's finer characteristics, but he picked bouquets of dandelions for his wife for as long as he could. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that any donations be made to the American Heart Association. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
