IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carlton "Toots"
Savage
July 15, 1933 – September 30, 2022
Carlton "Toots" Savage, 89, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2022, at Crosswinds Residential Care. Carl was born on July 15, 1933, in St. Francis, Maine, son of the late Percy and Theresa (Milliard) Savage. He married the love of his life, Lena (Thibodeau) Savage on February 15, 1955. They had two children, Glenn and Carrie.
Carl served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1955-1957 on the USS Forrestal. After his service, Carl worked in the logging industry and then had the opportunity to become a business partner in what became a successful office supply company know as M & S Office Products. Carl owned and operated M&S for 38 years. As he ran his business, he was also active in the community by serving as Chairman of the Board for the Town of Fort Kent for ten years. During his tenure as Chairman, Carl oversaw the creation of the Fort Kent Flood Dike, the Water District, and the building of the Fort Kent Municipal Center. He was also a part of the Fort Kent Golf Course Building Committee.
After his "retirement", he was contracted by Xerox to be the sales and service contact for the territory north of Bangor. During this time, Carl served on many boards including Northern Maine Medical Center, The University of Maine at Fort Kent, and Visiting Nurses of Aroostook.
In 1998, Carl and Lena bought their dream home on Eagle Lake. Boating and spending time with their children and grandchildren became the things they loved the most. Although he loved living on the lake and enjoyed maintaining the property, he missed giving to the community. In 2001 he joined the board at Fish River Rural Health. Fish River Rural Health held a special place in Carl's heart, and he was proud to have served on the board for ten years.
After Lena's passing in 2016, Carl managed apartment buildings and office spaces for a group of investors and in his spare time pursued his hobby of repairing clocks and watches. Being the generous man he was, he never charged for these services.
Carl is survived by his son Glenn (Cynthia) Savage; his daughter, Carrie (Michael) Reeves; grandchildren, Allison Savage and companion Andrew Townley; Aimee Savage and companion Kevin Wilson; Dylan Paradis; Braydon Paradis and companion Megan Blanchette; great-grandchildren Liam and Lena Paradis; his brothers Robert Savage, Vernon "Ben" Savage, and Michael (Patrice) Savage; his sister Brenda "Polly" Albert; and many nieces and nephews.
Carl was predeceased by his wife, Lena and one sister, Dawn Levesque.
Many thanks go out to the loving staff at Crosswinds who took great care of Carl until his passing.
