IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cecile
Cote
June 24, 1924 – October 25, 2022
Madawaska---Cecile (Corriveau) Cote, 98, died peacefully with her children by her side on October 25, 2022, at a Madawaska health care facility. She was born in Keegan, ME on June 24, 1924, daughter of the late Aime and Edna (Lavoie) Corriveau. She married Alphie H. Cote in St. Agatha on November 7, 1945. He was a potato and grain farmer in St. David. Orphaned at five years old, she was placed at the Sanitarium in Presque-Isle and misdiagnosed with tuberculosis, which was rampant at the time. Returning to St. Agatha, she was placed with the nuns and lived with them totally. The nuns ran a boarding school then, but she was not a boarder. She lived with them and did what they did. Since she was a "ward of the state" at seventeen, she had to move out and rented a room at Maxime Michaud, she was hired by the nuns to work for them. She would make and bake small Eucharist host for the Masses, etc. She also was a caregiver "sitter", especially when the mothers were having other babies, and house cleaning in the St. Agatha and Frenchville area. She also worked at High View Manor in Madawaska as a CNA. She was a loving wife, mother of 10, grandmother of 19, and great grandmother of 18, and a friend to many, especially those at La Maison Acadienne, where she cooked and fed many who were sick, throughout her years there. She also was a "giver" of many knitted and crochet items, candy, desserts, fresh vegetables, diamond art, food, etc. I'm sure many of you have had something from her. She enjoyed cooking, baking, making puzzles, seek-a-word, playing cards, and dancing. She was always dressed up to the max with everything matching for all the special events of the calendar, which was every day for her. She enjoyed many bus trips. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Ladies of St. Anne. She met her husband at the dance hall. Since she did not know her family, she ended up by being second cousin and/or first cousin once removed on the Lavoie side, which her future mother-in-law, Odile Soucy Cote found out. She is survived by her children, Linda (Lucien) Dube of Madawaska, Ida (Jacques) Pelletier of Edmundston, N.B., Irene (Nelson) Fortin, and Joyce Ouellette and her companion Louis Landry of Madawaska, Lisa (Dennis) Chamberland of West Palm Beach, FL, Paul Cote of St. David, Roger Cote of Hollywood, FL, and Tina (Victor) Rivera of Davie, FL; eighteen grandchildren, Glenn and Greg Cote, Robie, Cindy, and Jill Dube, Randy, Tracy, and Sandy Pelletier, Jeremy and Derek Fortin, Dana Ouellette, Jamie, Jessica, and Jordon Cote, Justin and Douglas Chamberland, Brittany and Tyler Rivera; nineteen great grandchildren; one brother, O'Neil Corriveau of Fitz William, NH; one sister, Eva (Jean "Percy") Madore of Plainville, CT; two special daughters-in-law, Rita (Ronald) Pelletier and Janice Cote both of Madawaska; and a "special lady" Diane Beaulieu of Madawaska; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alphie Cote in 1994; two sons, Gerald "Pit" Cote in 2021 and John Cote in 2007 both of St. David; a granddaughter, Gina Cote in 1988, two brothers, Edwin Corriveau in 2006 of Lewiston, and a baby brother, Donat in 1929. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Monday, October 31, 2022, at the St. Thomas Church in Madawaska. Interment will take place immediately following the Mass in the Parish Cemetery. Contributions in Cecile's memory may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38108-9929, or an organization of your choice.
