IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cecile (Thibodeau)
St. Jarre
November 10, 1945 – November 14, 2020
Madawaska-- Cecile St. Jarre, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Madawaska, surrounded by family, on November 14, 2020. She was born in Edmundson, N.B., Canada on November 10, 1945, the daughter of Joseph and Cora (Sirois) Thibodeau. Cecile and her sister Claudette lost their own mother when they were young girls, and she would say that is why she never learned to cook, and never learned how to be a mother, but she was a terrific one. She was supportive, proud, loving, and funny. While always cheering them on, she used to joke with her children, "I'll never take credit for your accomplishments, but I better never see you on Oprah blaming me when things go wrong." She was a stay at home mom for many years and was the type of mother who played with her children, invented games, colored with crayons, ran with pinwheels, and rolled on the lawn. Once, in the middle of winter, she roasted tiny hot-chocolate marshmallows on toothpicks over a candle with her kids because they missed summer. On long car rides, she would sit backwards in the front seat so she could entertain them. As her children became teenagers and more independent, she returned to work. Many would know her as a long-time secretary for Madawaska attorney James Lavertu. Originally a Thibodeau, Cecile was a true daughter of Acadia. She loved her heritage and researched her family's genealogy extensively. She often complained about the cold Madawaska winters, and Mom would agree that perhaps it is a blessing that she would pass before she had to look at tall snowbanks outside her windows, and that her last few days were warm and summer-like. As her mobility declined, she used social media to establish a large network of friends and family, became slightly famous for welcoming everyone each morning with cheery and inspiring thoughts, images that followed the seasons, and an invitation to join her for coffee no matter where you were in the world. Cecile is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Guy St. Jarre, and her children- Kevin and his partner Nylah Lyman, Steve and his wife Robin Wrisley, and Christine and her fiancé Michael Lovley; her grandchildren Laura, Dmitri, Sophia, Taylor, and Caleb. She is also survived by her sister, Claudette Harmon, and half-sisters and brothers Mark Thibodeau, Sandra Gingras, Dan Thibodeau, Linda Cormier, Jane Soucy, and Edith Nelson-Helstrom, and her step-mother Gemma Thibodeau. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Pastor Thomas Harmon. Cecile has long said she pictured Heaven, or perhaps her corner of it, as a lavender field, filled with flowers, and now she has gone there in peace. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
