Obituary

Fort Kent---Charles "Charlie" A. Bouchard, 85, passed away June 18, 2023, at a Fort Kent health care facility.  He was born in Fort Kent on June 26, 1937, son of the late Louis and Genevieve (Jalbert) Bouchard.  Charlie grew up in a farming family and his love for playing in the dirt cultivated him into quite the avid gardener.  He spent a countless number of hours planting seeds, meticulously pulling each and every weed and harvesting up to three gardens every summer.  He also had a back yard full of apple trees to prune and care for.  In the summer months, he could always be found with a watering can or a fistful of gardening tools assessing the weather and looking over his gardens.  Gardening brought him so much joy.  Beyond his green thumb, Charlie was known for his mischievous sense of humor.  His jovial nature, the twinkle in his eye and his playful smile brightened the lives of those around him.  Charlie was greeted with handshakes, smiles and laughter everywhere he went and he had an uncanny ability to brighten the lives of those around him.  Memories of his clever pranks and humor will forever be cherished and shared, reminding us of the joy he brought to so many lives.  Most importantly, Charlie was a cherished father and family man.  Charlie showered those around him with love by making sure the secret stash of candy was always plentiful, his freezer was packed with Klondike bars and the bounty of his gardens was shared with many.  In the days leading up to his beloved wife's death, he rarely left her side.  He spent every moment he could with her ensuring that she was comfortable and had everything she could possibly need.  The family finds solace in the fact that they are now reunited.  Charlie is survived by three daughters, Debra Mullins and her husband Michael of Florida, Susan Devoe and her husband Elden of New Canada, Jill Bouchard Cairns of Fort Kent; three sons, Denis Martin and his wife Betty of Arizona, Jeffrey Martin and his wife Nicole of Solon, ME, and Michael Martin and his wife Leslie of Arizona; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  Charles was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Caron) Bouchard; one sister, Linda Pelletier; and one brother, Louis "Jack" Bouchard.  As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, let us find comfort in the legacy of laughter and love he left behind.  May his memory be a source of comfort, reminding us to cherish the moments we share and find joy in the simplest of things. Rest in peace, Charlie.  You will be deeply missed by many, but never forgotten.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:30pm on Monday, June 26, 2023, at the St. Louis Church.  Relatives and friends may call at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home from 2pm until 3pm on Monday, June 26 before the Mass.  Interment will take place at the Holy Family Cemetery in Daigle immediately following the Mass.  The Bouchard family will forever be grateful for the exceptional care and compassion given by the staff at Crosswinds Residential Care, especially during his last few days.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlie's memory to be sent to Crosswinds, 40 Village Rd, Fort Kent, ME 04743.
