Madawaska--- Charles J. Gogan, 76, peacefully entered into rest November 4, 2024, at a Madawaska healthcare facility, with his beloved wife at his side. He was born November 8, 1947 in Edmundston, NB, Canada, a son of the late Antoine and Rita (Soucy) Gogan, raised in Madawaska, and graduated from Madawaska High School, Class of 1966.
Charlie enlisted with the US Marine Corps shortly after graduating from high school, serving stateside across the USA. Following his Honorable Discharge, he returned to his beloved hometown and took work at Fraser Paper Mill, Madawaska. He worked as a first-class pipefitter for many years until his retirement in 1997. Charlie was a life member of the American Legion and a Third-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. A parishioner of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, he attended mass weekly. Charlie enjoyed spending his time with his family and cherished traveling to visit his daughters and grandsons.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Berthe (Thibodeau) Gogan of Madawaska; two daughters, Sharon Van Raalten and her husband Scott of Upton, MA, and Jacqueline Tabura and her husband of Portland; two grandsons, Cameron and Alex; three siblings, James Gogan and his wife Helene of Madawaska, Janet Kolb of Wisconsin, and Charlene Michaud of New Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by siblings and half siblings, Patricia Marks, Patrick Gogan, Nancy Gogan, Joan Bouchard, Norman Gogan, and Robert Gogan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, November 15, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Relatives and friends may greet the family Friday morning 8:30 – 9:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114-10th Avenue, Madawaska. Burial with military honors will be in the parish cemetery.
