CARIBOU- Cheryl Lynn Martin, SMSgt, USAF (retired) passed away April 6, 2025, after a brief illness. Cheryl was born August 23, 1966, in Connecticut to Pauline and the late Claude Martin.
Cheryl was raised in Van Buren, ME and joined the U.S. Air Force upon her high school graduation. She started her Air Force career in logistics then transferred to the Air National Guard in a contracting position with the 102nd FW, Det 1, Otis ANGB MA. She transferred to the 101st Air Refueling Wing, Bangor ME, retraining as an Inflight Refueling Operator (boom operator), a position she held until her retirement in 2008.
Cheryl was so loved and will be fondly and forever remembered by her family, numerous friends and colleagues as a bright, profoundly witty and dedicated person. Cheryl was well known for bestowing her personal nicknames for nearly everyone she came into contact with. She will also be remembered as a reliable friend and co-worker as well as a person you trusted to tell it like it is. She was funny, generous, and compassionate, making you want to be in her orbit.
Cheryl is survived by her mother, Pauline, brother Dennis, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She will also be greatly missed and remembered by lifelong friend Darlene Ouellette and many other special friends, including Lynn Titus and Kelly Hoffses.
A military service will take place at 12 noon on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 37 Lombard Road, Caribou, ME. A Celebration of Cheryl's Life will take place in Bangor ME with date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome to Maineiacs Charities, PO Box 2764 Bangor, ME 04401.
