Van Buren--- Claire Dubay, 96, died peacefully Monday, June 23, 2014, at a Van Buren healthcare facility. She was born May 16, 1918 in St. Leonard, NB, Canada, a daughter of the late Alfred and Anna (Jean) Michaud. She married Claude M. Dubay on October 22, 1940. They were married over 61 years before his passing in 2001. She was a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, and a former member of Ladies of Ste. Anne. Claire was a devoted mother and raised 18 children with her husband. She loved cooking and sharing her recipes with her friends and neighbors. She knitted and sewed many quilts, mittens and scarves to share with her children and grandchildren. Overall she will be remembered as a loving mother and Memere who cherished any and every moment spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by: seven sons, Clarence Dubay and his wife Lorraine of Canaan, CT, James "Gene" Dubay and his companion June Coon of Winsted, CT, Donald Dubay and his wife Barbara of Forestville, CT, Clifford Dubay, Robert Dubay and his wife Donna, both of Bristol, CT, Michael Dubay and his companion Maggie Berry of Winsted, CT, and Claude Dubay, Jr. of Van Buren; six daughters, Claudette Deeves and her husband Victor of Presque Isle, Bernadette Opthof and her husband Ronald of Limestone, Barbara Pelletier and her husband Robert of Ft. Worth, TX, Caroline Dubay and her companion Elton Thibodeau of Mapleton, Suzanne Allen and her companion Gaetan Tardif of Van Buren and Patricia Cyr of Grand Falls, NB, Canada; one brother, Lucien Michaud of St. Leonard, NB, Canada; three sisters, Patricia McGillan of Fredericton, NB, Canada, Edna Levesque and her husband Noil and Edmay Tardiff and her husband Gerard, both of Hartford, CT; 35 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Claire is predeceased by four sons, Norman, Henry, Camile and Gilbert Dubay, one daughter, Barbara Dubay, one grandson, Mark Dubay, and 13 siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday 5 - 8 PM and Saturday 910:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME 04785. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
