Obituary

Fort Kent and Portage--- Clara Ouellette, 94, peacefully passed into Eternal Life and into the waiting arms of her late husband on February 17, 2024. She was born June 6, 1929 in Madawaska, a daughter of the late Leo and Maria (Laferriere) Dubois, and was the beloved wife of 74 years to the late Lucien J. Ouellette.

She worked as a waitress at former Dennis Lozier restaurant, Fort Kent, for several years and then moved to the Fort Kent hospital where she worked as a nurses' aide for several years. While raising her family, Clara also worked with Maine Potato Service, Presque Isle, and would assist many local farmers during harvest, including her father's farm. She was a skilled field worker and could pick over 100 barrels a day! Clara was a devout parishioner of St. Louis Church, Fort Kent, and rarely missed Mass, and she was proud to pass along her faith to her growing family.

She is survived by four children, Rena Mae Belanger and her husband Donald of Portage, Patrick Ouellette and his wife Janet of Plainville, CT, Bernadette Mayes and her husband Arelius of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mark Ouellette and his wife Barbara of Palmer, AK; nine grandchildren, Donald Jr. and his wife Lori, Danny and his fiancée Connie, Brian, Jennifer, Patrick Jr. and his wife Jessica, Christopher and his wife Kendya, Cornelius and his wife Angela, Reneé,  and Tyler and his wife KaiLeigh ; fourteen great grandchildren, Alex and his wife Becca, Tyler, Kylah and her husband Jarrett, Emma, Liam, Maia, Emery, Jada, Naomi, Carson, Journei, Shaina and her husband Sean, Carter and Zachery ; one great-great grandson, Knox; three siblings, Bernadette Voisine of Fort Kent, Louis Dubois of Ocala, FL, and Raymond Dubois of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, Clara was predeceased by eights siblings, Sylvio Dubois, Clarence Dubois, Harold "Lenney" Dubois, Patrick Dubois, infant Mary Jane Dubois, infant Leo Paul Dubois, Annette Raymond, and Maurice Dubois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, June 7, 2024, at St. Louis Church, Fort Kent. Family and friends may call Friday morning 9 – 9:45 AM at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
