IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Claudette
Plourde
August 15, 1938 – September 3, 2018
Fort Kent – Claudette Plourde, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, & friend passed away peacefully on September 3, 2018 in Fort Kent. She had just turned 80. Dementia had taken a toll on her body but she fought hard to keep awareness of her surroundings. Claudette was born to the late Leonide and Gertrude (Pelletier) Nadeau on August 15, 1938 and grew up in Clair, New Brunswick. She graduated from high school at an early age and attended Notre-Dame d'Acadie in Moncton, N.B. She was very proud of the college choir which she was a member of and which won several awards traveling throughout Canada. After graduation, she landed a job at Etscovitz Chevrolet where she met the love of her life, Joel. Joel and Claudette married and raised two daughters, Lola and Colleen, in Fort Kent. Claudette was an active member of the St. John Vianney Catholic Parish and was well known for her powerful "Minuit Chrétiens" (O Holy Night) at the Christmas Eve mass for so many years. She had a great love for music and one could hear her singing at several University concerts, parish funeral masses, and church choir and at the opening ceremony for the biathlon. Claudette fully enjoyed life and had many hobbies which she shared with her family and friends: golfing, snowmobiling, skiing, sewing, oil painting, stain glass and creating special annual Christmas cards which included her beloved dogs, Benjie and Nicki, in very many different scenes. She especially enjoyed countless hours creating treasured scrapbooks of special family events. She also enjoyed learning about the world and traveled to various countries to appreciate different cultures. Her greatest joy was spending time (and cooking for) her family; especially her grandchildren, Deirdre, Shantelle, Samantha & Benjamin. She had a special place in her heart for her great grandchildren, Camryn & Dylan Ames & Serenity Houghton. A special Christmas tradition of Claudette's was the creation of the Christmas scene and village which filled the entire pool table and enchanted the children. She is survived by her loving husband, Joel Plourde of 60 years; two daughters, Lola Plourde and her husband Kevin of Fort Kent, and Colleen Harvey and her husband Mark of Virgina; four grandchildren, Deirdre Ames and her husband Chuck of Presque Isle, Shantelle Houghton and her husband John of Etna, and Samantha and Benjamin Harvey, both of Virginia; 3 great grandchildren, Camryn, Dylan, and Serenity; 5 siblings, Jean Claude Nadeau and his companion Nola of Edmundston, N.B., Nicole Gagnon and her husband Yvan of Quebec, P.Q., Francine Nadeau of Old Orchard Beach, Monique Beaulieu and her husband Rino of Fredericton, N.B., and Diane Harmon and her husband Andy of Fredericton, N.B; her dear sisters-in-law, Venette King and Burnette Bowker; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the St. Louis Church in Fort Kent. Family and friends may call at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home from 9-10:45 the morning before the service. Interment will be held in the Parish Cemetery immediately following the service. If one chooses, contributions in Claudette's memory may be made to St. Joseph's Memory care center, 426 U.S. Route 1, Frenchville, Me 04745. Special thanks for the wonderful staff at St. Joe's Memory Care who made her last few years enjoyable, where she could be seen dancing with her new friends. We are positive that Claudette has already joined the choirs of angels in heaven. For online condolences please visit, www.lajoiefuneralhome.com
