Obituary

Clayton Ray Deschaine, age 68, passed away on March 21, 2025, at his residence in Pollock, Louisiana. He was born on January 26, 1957, in Fort Kent, Maine, the son of the late Donald and Laurie (Blier) Deschaine. The family is deeply saddened by his unexpected death, and his memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

A proud veteran, Master Sargeant Clayton Deschaine served in the U.S. Army for 22 years as a Self-Propelled Mechanic retiring in May,1998. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Army Commendation Medals (4th award), Army Achievement Medal (9th award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Star (BSS) and has earned many ribbons. His dedication and bravery took him to many regional areas of the world including Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. He was a man who served his country with honor and lived his life with integrity.

Clayton had a passion for motorcycle riding and was an active participant in group rides, occasionally raising funds for charitable causes. His love for riding was a reflection of his adventurous spirit and his commitment to giving back to his community. He also had a nurturing side, with a deep love for animals and spending a lot of time with his pets.

Clayton was a beloved companion to Marie-Claude Tanner for many years. He leaves behind three stepchildren, Cortney, April, and Kevin, as well as seven grandchildren. He is survived by his 10 remaining siblings. His brothers Gordon, Marvin, Carlton, Alvin, Leland. His sisters Carolyn, Ellen, Karen, Evelyn, Sharon and 21 nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Lauren Deschaine, who passed away on May 6, 2014, as well as his two brothers, Eldon and Roland Deschaine, and his sister, Marilyn Deschaine and his nephew Davis Deschaine. His legacy will live on in the stories shared by his loved ones and the lives he touched.

A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Louis church. In memory of Clayton's love for animals and his dedication and support for our country, donations may be made to Maine Paws for Veterans.
