Obituary

Madawaska--- Clayton J. Martin, 86, drew his last breath and passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5 th , at home with his loving wife by his side.  He was born on August 29, 1935, at the family farm in St. David, son of Alice (Guimond) and Paul Martin.  During high school he worked at Martin's Clothing and this undoubtedly led to his penchant for suits and ties. He took some good-natured ribbing from friends and co-workers regarding his sharp attire. According to Clayton, he was very good at measuring and suiting up the customers. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served stateside. Upon returning to Madawaska, he began working at Fraser Paper, employment which lasted 40 plus years.  Clayton loved the outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, cross country skiing or snowshoeing. His true pleasure came from being 'au camp' in Canada. There he cut and split firewood for his side job. He also tapped his maple trees and boiled down the sap to his perfection of amber hued sweetness!  He loved nothing more than commanding a conversation, whether it be at the dining table or in 'his chair' (the recliner) and lets not forget his love of brunch at the local eateries.  He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Dorina Martin. His sons, Roger (Renee) of Allentown, NH; Dan (Tina) of Bowdoin, ME; Andrew (Elizabeth) of Madawaska and his daughter Kathleen (David) of Manchester, CT.  He was very proud of all his grandchildren, Ryan, Kevin, Chelsea, Anna (Rick), James, Joshua, Morgan, Sarah, Nicholas, Alyson, Jordan, Jimmy and Francis and his great grandchildren Liam, Eliza, Tristan and Delaney.  Surviving are siblings Alex Michaud of Madawaska, Jackie Cyr of Van Buren, Marietta (Don Cyr) of Hamlin, Raymond (Sally) of Oklahoma.  He was predeceased by brothers Robert and Jean Paul, sisters Rachel Michaud, Rinette Cyr and Muriel Jasper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church.  There will be no visiting hours or receiving line.  Interment will be at the St. David Cemetery immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Dementia Society Inc. P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901-0600 or Alzheimer Association Maine Chapter 383 US Route 1 Suite 2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
