IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clifford
Roy
October 20, 1927 – December 30, 2023
Fort Kent-- Clifford Roy, age 96, peacefully entered into rest at home on December 30, 2023, with loving family by his side, after a brief period of declining health. He was born on October 20, 1927, in Fort Kent, a son of George and Leona (Daigle) Roy.
He was a communicant of St. Louis parish, made his Cursillo and was a Eucharistic minister for 24 years, along with his wife. He was a 4th degree honorary member of Knights of Columbus, VFW, and the Fort Kent Senior Citizens Club. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Italy.
Clifford graduated from the University of Maine with a BS degree in Agriculture Economics and started his career teaching Vocational Agriculture and Sciences at Patten Academy.
In 1955 he married Annette LaFrance, his one true love. He was a very loving husband and father, and they shared a happily married life of 68 years, and were blessed with four children, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In 1956 he pursued his career with U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service and was awarded the "Superior Service Silver Medal", the highest award presented in U.S.D.A. He was well respected by coworkers for his sharp wit and sense of humor, and he retired in 1991 after 35 years of service.
Cliff enjoyed many activities with his wife including dancing, biking the Heritage Trail, walking, gardening, camping and various bus tours. He enjoyed the four seasons, and his philosophy of life was to keep busy. He warmed the hearts of many with his sweet, gentle grin. He had a strong work ethic that never ceased which he was proud to instill in his children and grandchildren. Up until his latter years, he enjoyed puttering around his land, trimming and transplanting trees, and growing his beautiful vegetable garden each summer. Cliff loved watching his grandsons grow up to become fine young men. His sweet and funny expressions that we'll always quote and never forget, including his quick note of smiling affirmation "You bet!" and when it was time to rush off to a new task, he'd say "We're off like a herd of turtles in a cloud of dust!" Many afternoons were spent quietly sitting on the porch with his wife Annette, watching the river and listening to Channel X radio, sometimes with a small bowl of potato chips in hand. Life will never be the same without our kind, humble patriarch – so loved!
Cliff was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Juliet Gagnon, Jeannette Cannan, Augustine Ford, Claire Bouchard, Bernice Cyr and Sylvia (Vi) Ouellet and his son-in-law, Timothy McCue.
Surviving Cliff are his beloved wife Annette of 68 years, daughter Janice McCue, son David Roy and wife Debbie, son John Roy and wife Karen, and daughter Sharon Saucier and husband Dean. Grandchildren Ryan Roy and fiancé Lauren with children Ashlynn and Rias, Daniel McCue and wife Barbara with children Burns and Briar, Zachary Roy, Jeremy Saucier and fiancé Ashley Williams, Ryan Olberding and wife Kristen and children Madison and Brendan, and Natalie Olberding. Cliff also leaves behind one remaining sister, Valerie Ann Smith and her husband James.
