Obituary

Portage Lake--- Della J. Holmes, 65, passed away gracefully Saturday, April 1, 2017, at a Bangor hospital. She was born November 12, 1951 in Portage Lake, a daughter of the late Franklin and Harriet (Bolstridge) Holmes.
Della was passionate about cooking and utilized her culinary skills at Dean's Restaurant, Portage, for several years before her retirement. Previously she worked the kitchens of former Four Seasons Motel and various places around Ashland and Portage. She also worked many years with Potato Service. During her limited spare time, she enjoyed hunting and fishing, but always made herself available to her family and friends with a sympathetic ear or a few words of wise advice. Della also cherished traveling, especially to visit family in North Carolina and Kentucky.
She is survived by: three sisters, Barbara Curry of Caribou, Patricia Lee and her husband Richard of North Carolina and Sandra Miller of Washburn; eleven nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and cherished friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Holmes and an infant.
Relatives and friends may greet the family 6-8:00 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland. A prayer service will follow the visitation. Spring interment will be in the family lot of Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery.
