Obituary

Madawaska--- Donald B. Cyr, 81, peacefully passed away during the early hours of Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born September 15, 1943, in St. David, a son of the late Oneil D. and Isabelle Cyr, and was a 1962 graduate of Madawaska High School.

He attained his bachelor's degree in business administration from Husson College, now Husson University, in 1968, and relocated to Connecticut where he took work with Pratt & Whitney, East Harford, as an aeronautical parts purchasing agent. He returned to his beloved St. John River Valley in 1969 where he sold insurance for a short time for MetLife before establishing his own business, Cyr's Floral Boutique, Madawaska. Don purchased the Sears Agency Store on Main Street, where he continued selling for Sears for several years. Don was also the former manager for over 10 years for Aroostook County Saving and Loans while creating the Cyr's Real Estate Agency. A successful businessman, Don had a lifetime of achievements while serving his communities.

Don was very ambitious, goal-oriented, and always had a project going on. He was always ready to offer a helping hand when his health permitted. He was most certainly a "straight-shooter" and a had no-nonsense attitude. Don was very generous of his time and talents to all those around him, he knew no strangers, and he loved not only all people but also all animals. He and his wife were fortunate to travel to many Caribbean Islands, South and Central America, Asia and Europe, and throughout most of the United States and Canada. Don had many friends and acquaintances near and far and made many friends while wintering in Florida on personal and business levels. His passion was sailing and enjoyed his hobby for over 20 years on Temiscouata Lake in Quebec. Don and his wife created a charitable endowment at Husson University to assist incoming students with scholarships to the school.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Claudette Cyr of Madawaska; one brother, Herman Cyr and his wife Jackie Lynn of St. David; sisters-in-law, Alice (Bosse) Cyr and Therese (Ouellette) Cyr; six nieces and nephews, Glen (Marci) Cyr, Sandra Cyr, Diane Carol Cyr, Donna (Cyr) Carlin, Alan Cyr, and Bonnie (Cyr) Lyford; and many extended family and cousins near and far.

Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by two brothers, Oneil Cyr Jr and Eldon Cyr.

At Don's request, there will be no funeral services. Burial will be in St. David Cemetery in the Spring of 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, to a charity that benefits a spinal injuries or treatment, or to a local charity of one's choice. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home 114—10th Ave. Madawaska.
