Obituary

Hamlin--- Donald R. Cyr, 88, peacefully entered into eternal life December 27, 2024, with his loving family at his side. He was born September 3, 1936, in Hamlin, a son of the late Leon and Emily (Bouchard) Cyr.

Don was born and raised on the family potato farm in Hamlin, Maine, and continued the farm with his twin brother Ron, as Cyr Bros.  Don enlisted with the US Navy and was a longtime member of the American Legion in Van Buren and Madawaska. On the family potato farm, Don learned to drive at an early age and his love of the open road continued well into his later years.  He drove a tanker for several years for the former JJ Paradis.  A beloved bus driver for SAD #24, for over 20 years, Don's favorite times of the day were picking up the smiling children at the bus stop and safely getting them home at the end of the day. Don also served his town of Hamlin as the Tax Collector for 35 years.  He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph Church, St. Peter Chanel Parish, for many years and volunteered his time to the church and its functions. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree Assembly, Van Buren. Don's daily therapy was working in his garden and providing his family and neighbors with fresh vegetables through the harvest. He enjoyed four-wheeler rides around the old homestead, tinkering in his garage, and creating beautiful stained-glass pieces that his family will forever cherish.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 65 years, Marietta (Martin) Cyr of Hamlin; four children, Elaine Cyr of Lewiston, Greg Cyr and his wife Gina of Madawaska, Timothy Cyr and his husband Richard of Hallowell, and Nicole Cyr and her husband Bob of Madawaska; eleven grandchildren, Amanda Morin, Scott Morin, Matthew Morin, Max Meserve, Renee Cyr, Luke Cyr, Ezra Duplissie-Cyr, Emma Duplissie-Cyr, Emerson Duplissie-Cyr, Vicky Legere, and Ryan Cyr; many great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by three siblings, his twin Ronald Cyr, Gilman Cyr, and Hilda Martin.

Don's wife and children would like to thank his Country Village Estates family and Northern Light Hospice for the love and care they provided, especially in his final days.
