Masardis--- Dorothy J. Malena, 71, passed unexpectedly Saturday, August 20, 2022. She was born July 8, 1951 in Belfast, and was lovingly raised by the late Wesley and Evelyn (Miller) Brown.
Dorothy worked many years at Leisure Village and Gardens, Presque Isle. Previously she also worked as a homecare specialist for many residents in and around Ashland, Masardis, Mapleton and Presque Isle. Dorothy was a longtime parishioner of St. Marks Church, Ashland, and was a lifetime member of Ashland VFW's Ladies' Auxiliary. Though Dorothy loved busying her hands with word search puzzles and embroidery, her favorite times were making her infamous peanut butter fudge for her visiting grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Travis Malena and his wife Anne of Bangor, and Thomas Malena and his wife Meagan of Limestone; six siblings, Wesley Brown Jr. and his wife Brenda, Wayne Brown, Wilbur Brown, Amber Fawson and her husband Rodney, Andrea Stewart and her husband Peter, and Katherine Brown; four grandchildren, Quinn, Kyler, Natalie, and Abram; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 26 years, Joseph V. Malena in 2011.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at St. Marks Catholic Church, Allen Farm Rd., Ashland. Relatives and friends may greet the family Thursday morning 9-10:45 at the church. Burial will be in Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland.
