Obituary

Madawaska---Edmond "Blackie" Albert, 83, passed away on July 8, 2016. He was born in Madawaska on July 20, 1932, son of the late Ernest and Esther (Dionne) Albert.  He attended St. Louis College in Edmundston, N.B. for 4 years.  He worked at Fraser Papers for 4 years, then went into the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer obtaining the rank of Captain in the reserves.  Upon his return, he worked for the U.S. Post Office in Madawaska, and took a leave of absence to attend the University of Maine in Orono.  In 1959, he joined the U.S. Customs Service retiring in 1995 as the Area Port Director in Northern Maine.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Irma Picard.  Blackie was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Thomas O. Cyr Post # 147, and a 4 th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #2638 both of Madawaska.  He was on the Parish Council of St. Thomas Church for six years, four of which were as president, and where he was also in charge of the Alter Servers for funerals for many years.  He was president of the snowmobile club for three years, and president of the Square Dancing Club for two years.  He was an avid golfer for over forty years, and was a member of the Upper St. John Valley Senior Golf Association, serving as Governor for a few years representing the Long Lake Country Club.  He is survived by his wife Cecile Bosse; four children, Denise Holmes and her husband Greg, Mark and his wife Lupita, Ann-Marie "Mim" Gagnon and her husband Gary, Jeffrey and his wife Tina; two step-children, Louis and Brigette Theriault; seven grandchildren, Benjamin, Elise, Andrew, Joshua, Heather, Colby, and Alexis; six great-grandchildren, Brady, Carter, Aiden, Owen, Leila, and Ian; eight siblings, Leona "Kit" Roy, Anne Chaisson, Jean-Paul, Louise Grondin, Louis, Ernest Jr., Claudette Levesque, and James.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church.  Family and friends may call at Lajoie Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Monday, July 11 and from 9am until 9:45am on Tuesday before the Service.  Burial will take place at a later date in the Parish Cemetery.  Contributions in Blackie's memory may be made to the St. Thomas Aquinas Church Memorial Fund, 337 St. Thomas St., Madawaska, ME 04756.
