IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edmund
Pelletier
December 24, 1933 – October 20, 2023
New Canada --- Edmund Pelletier, 89, peacefully entered into Eternal Life and into the waiting arms of his beloved wife on Friday, October 20, 2023, at a Fort Kent healthcare facility. He was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1933 in Daigle, a son of the late William and Modeste (Daigle) Pelletier, and was raised on the family potato farm.
In 1956 he joined the Maine Army National Guard and served six years. Upon his return, he was hired by former Coles Express and remained with the company until his retirement in 1997. He loved being a truck driver during his many years at Coles, where he received numerous awards for his attentive and expert driving skills. He earned "One Million Miles Without an Accident" and "Two Million Miles Without an Accident" awards, "Associate of the Year" in 1986, "Teammate of the Year" in 1991, and "35 Years of Dedicated Service." In 1997, within reach of his "Three Million Miles Without an Accident," Cole Express sold to Viking Express and he decided to retire.
He had a great sense of humor, a warm smile, and fondly known as "Miss" by many nieces and nephews. Edmund enjoyed going to Rock's Diner for coffee and also loved his special dogs, Casey and Molly.
Edmund lived a life of service for the Town of New Canada and his church. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Fort Kent. For decades he volunteered caring for the Holy Family Church and Cemetery as grounds caretaker. Edmund was an active member of the New Canada Community Center Committee, a hard worker on the New Canada Dam, and many other projects.
He is survived by five children, Debbie Ottinger, Jan Bouchard (Mike), Doreen Daigle (Ronald), Steven Pelletier, and Paula Brown (Scott); five grandchildren, Stephanie Graner (Pete), Mitchell Daigle (Amanda), Joshua Daigle (Charissa), Andrew Brown, and Austin Brown (Hope Renee); seven great-grandchildren, Braiden, William, Henry, Madelyn, Leon, Duncan and Elaina.
Besides his parents, Edmund was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Shirley (Gagnon) Pelletier in 2021, and all of his siblings, infant brother Albert Pelletier, Fern (Angelo) Morneault, Harold (Francina) Pelletier, Gerald (Lena) Pelletier, Ray Pelletier, Maurice (Claudette) Pelletier, and Philip (Claire) Pelletier.
Edmund Pelletier's family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Northern Light Hospice, particularly Jenna Roy, for their care and compassion, also to Forest Hill Manor for their excellent care. Edmund often referred to all of them as his family and always felt at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, New Canada. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edmund's name may be made to a local humane society of one's choice.
