Obituary

Madawaska--- Edna H (Albert) Day, 91, died peacefully on April 28, 2022 at Ridgewood Estates in Madawaska, Maine.

Edna was born June 1, 1930 in Grand Falls, N.B., Canada, the seventh child of Julie and Alphonse Levesque.  Upon her father's unexpected death, she was adopted, at the age of two months, by her Aunt Jeanne (Levesque) and Uncle Jean Albert of Madawaska.

After graduating from Madawaska High School in 1948, Edna worked at Fraser Paper Ltd., then moved to Connecticut where she worked at Travelers Insurance Company.  While in Hartford Edna met her future husband, Leonard Hebert.  They were married in 1953.  The couple lived in Enfield, Connecticut and had three children:  Alan, Stephen, and Elaine.  Lenny died in a work-related accident in 1966.

Edna remarried in 1971 to Stephen Day and the couple lived in North Granby, Connecticut, where Edna worked at Westminster School in Simsbury as a secretary in the Development Department.  In 1979 Edna and Steve moved to Marion, Massachusetts, where they enjoyed the waters and islands of Buzzards Bay and Nantucket Sound.  While living in Marion, Edna worked at Tabor Academy in the College Placement Department, assisting students with their college applications.  She retired in 1985 to care for her elderly mother.

After Stephen's death in 2002, Edna moved back to Madawaska, Maine.  She enjoyed returning to her 'beginnings', and spending time with old friends, acquaintances, siblings, and cousins.

Edna was predeceased by her first husband Leonard Hebert in 1966; second husband Stephen Day in 2002; son Stephen Hebert in 2020; biological siblings Simone, Clovis, Leon, Alvine, Lawrence, and Guy.

Edna is survived by her son, Alan Hebert (Leslie) of Belfast,Maine; daughter, Elaine Hall (David Jr.) of Torrington, Connecticut; grandchildren, Maegan Hall and David Hall III of Torrington, Connecticut; step-children, Suzanne Erickson of So. Windsor, Connecticut, Mary Kivel (Richard) of So. Ft. Myers, Florida, Stephen Day (Gail) of Old Chatham, New York, Karen Girondel of Portland, Maine, and Jennifer Pierce of Waldo, Maine; sister-in-law Helene Hebert of W. Hartford, Connecticut; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at Ridgewood Estates for their excellent care and compassion during Edna's final years, and especially her end-of-life transition.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 337 St. Thomas Street, Madawaska, Maine on July 15, 2022 at 10am.
