Obituary

Van Buren - - Elmer Corbin, 92, died Monday morning, March 10, 2014, surrounded by his family at the Caribou hospital following a brief illness. He was born, June 17, 1921 in Van Buren, a son of the late Daniel and Annie (Morin) Corbin. He graduated from the former St. Mary's School in Van Buren. He enlisted with the US Army during WW II and was a radar operator on the beaches of Normandy. Elmer was a master electrician, owning and operating "Corbin's Electrical and Refrigeration Service", servicing many of the companies and residents of the St. John Valley for many years. He loved working with his hands and only retired in the last several years. Previously he worked for the former Sears and Roebuck as an appliance and maintenance man all across the county. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 49 for 66 years, and held a seat on the Van Buren Appeals Board as well as the Van Buren Hospital Board. He formerly served on the Van Buren Town Council, the MSAD #24 School Board and the Van Buren Housing Authority Board. Elmer is survived by: three daughters, Lillian Marquis and her husband Daniel of Wells, Jeannine Corbin Gagnon and her husband Wayne, Alice Marquis and her husband Wayne, all of Van Buren; one son, Dan Corbin and his wife Sarah of Van Buren; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews. Beside his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Christianne (Vallee) Corbin in 1988; three brothers, Emery, Harold, and Edmond "Bob" Corbin; one sister, Cora Corbin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, in Van Buren. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Saturday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church. Arrangements are a service of the Lajoie Funeral Home - Van Buren, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME 04785. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elmer's name may be made to: The Edgar J.
