Obituary

Fort Kent—Elmer Ouellette, 91, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2022, after battling with dementia for the past 8 years, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born on April 4, 1931, son of the late Sylva and Leone (Daigle) Ouellette. Elmer married the love of his life in July 1953 and moved to Connecticut, where he worked at Pratt and Whitney. He moved back to help with the family potato farm, Sylva D. Ouellette and son. He worked along side his Dad and 2 uncles (Oneil and Leon) for 20 years, until the farm sold in 1970. He was a proud member of the National Farmers organization (NFO). Elmer then started a new career selling life insurance for Met Life until 1986. He also completed his Cursillo in the late 80's, which he was very proud of. He was a lifelong member of the 4 th degree Knights of Columbus in Fort Kent. He was an avid snowmobiler and a member of the Sly Brook snowmobile club. He enjoyed his camp at St. Froid from 1975-2003. He enjoyed the meals at the Senior Citizen centers in Fort Kent and Cross Lake for many years. For 3 years he was a member of the Lions Club in Fort Kent. He is survived by two children, Lynne Babin and her husband John of Fort Kent, Sandy Tagget and her husband Jeffrey of Fort Kent; two grandsons, Justin Babin and wife Julie of Fort Kent, Matthew Cummings and his wife Erica of Fort Fairfield; seven great-grandchildren, Aiden, Meggie, Chloe, Hannah, Hadley, Griffen, and Millie; one sister, Verna Holmquist of Madawaska; one sister-in law, Odile Raymond of Connecticut; along with one special friend, Patricia Landry of Fort Kent; one godson, Hubert Ouellette of Caribou; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Elmer is predeceased by his parents; his wife of 38 years, Dorothy 'Dot' (Tardif) Ouellette who passed away on September 18, 1991; his brother and sister in-laws, Raoul and Martha Tardif, Lucien and Regina Tardif, Maurice and Priscille Tardif, Hilda and Aurelle Sylvain, Aline and George Suplinskas, Oneil Raymond, John Holmquist; along with several uncles, aunts, and cousins. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022, 10am at the St. Joseph church in Soldier Pond/Wallagrass. Family and friends may offer their condolences at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral home Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 6-8pm; and the morning of the service from 8:15-9:15am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Country Village estates activities (Attn: Paula Gendreau), 260 Dugal Dr., Madawaska, ME 04756. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
