Van Buren & Presque Isle--- Elmire B. Bailey, 101, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a period of declining health. She was born February 10, 1917 in Frenchville, a daughter of the late Edmund and Alice (Bard) Bouchard.
Elmire lived in Connecticut for many years before relocating to Rhode Island. Her final move was to northern Maine, to be closer to her daughter and granddaughter. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella during her years in Connecticut. She loved playing bridge, was an accomplished seamstress, and adored the many times her family came to visit.
Elmire and her family wish to extend their sincere appreciation to the dedicated care over the last fourteen years at "her home," Leisure Village, Presque Isle, and to Dr. O'Neill for her tender care during the last several months.
She is survived by: her daughter Barbara (Theriault) Pelletier and her husband Dan of Van Buren; a granddaughter, Cheryl Pelletier and her fiancé Kevin Barnes of Caribou; a great granddaughter, Sarah Louise Beaulieu of Caribou; two sisters, Florence Dumais of Madawaska and Joan Dumais of Summerfield, FL; and her godchildren, Ronald Picard, Elaine Picard Griffin, and Rose Bell Porter.
Besides her parents, Elmire was predeceased by her first husband, Alyre B. Theriault in 1960, her second husband Lt. Col. Herbert P. Bailey, USAF (Ret.), in 2006, seven sisters, Gladys Bouchard, Evelyn Picard, Rose Picard, Theresa Boutot, Anita Bouchard, Annette Cormier, and Phyllis Lajoie, and a brother, Nelson Bouchard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Monday, May 7, 2018, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Main St., Van Buren. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elmire's name may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St. Van Buren.
