Fort Kent---Elray J. Oakes, 87, died peacefully on December 19, 2023 at a Fort Kent health care facility.  He was born in St. John on November 7, 1936, son of the late Earl and Hazel (Plourde) Oakes.  Elray was the husband, friend, and companion of Jeannine (LaFrance) Oakes.  He is survived by his beloved son, Jeffrey Oakes of Fort Kent. A funeral service will be held Friday, July 5, 2024, at 10am at the St. Louis Church in Fort Kent. Burial will be in the Oakes Cemetery in St. John.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.
