Madawaska---Ernest J. Gendreau, 90, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born on February 17, 1927 in St. David, son of the late Joseph and Edith (Clavet) Gendreau. Ernest owned and operated his family farm for 38 years and continued working for his son until his retirement. He was a 4th Degree member and past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus Council # 2638 in Madawaska, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 147. Ernest is survived by his four children, Fern Gendreau and his companion Jane Cyr of Grand Isle, Linda M. Cyr of Madawaska, John Gendreau and his wife Fran of St. David, and Allen Gendreau and his wife Debbie of Auburn; two sisters; Marie Mae Ouellette of Enfield, CT, Claudette Mavor and her husband George of Madawaska; two brothers, Clifford Gendreau and his wife Louise of Madawaska, Roger Gendreau of St. Agatha; five grandchildren, Brenda, Brian, Michelle, Andrew, and Adam; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ernest is predeceased by his wife Lucielle; one grandson Dale; one son-in-law Norman Cyr; and nine siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday, November 20, 2017 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madawaska. Relatives and friends may offer their condolences on Sunday from 6-8 PM at Lajoie Funeral Home. Spring internment will be in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
