St. David---Erny Levesque, 89, passed away on March 23, 2017 at a Fort Kent health care facility. He was born in Grand Isle on January 28, 1928, son of the late Abel and Euphemie (Gervais) Levesque. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 147 of Madawaska. In his early years, he enjoyed racing stock cars, where he became known as the "Flying Frenchman". He was one of the most successful racers of Spud Speedway. Erny will be inducted into the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame on April 15. He loved to tinker and always had multiple projects going at once. He enjoyed keeping in contact with his family from out of town through skype. He is survived by one son, Chet Levesque and his wife Roseli Walker of Rockville, MD; three grandchildren, Andrew Levesque and his wife Heather of Caribou, Sara Levesque of New York, and Anna Levesque also of New York; two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Carly; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Levesque of St. David; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Edwina Levesque; one son, Eugene Levesque; one grandson, Michael Levesque; three brothers, Alcide, Donald, and Yvon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the St. David Church. Family and Friends may offer their condolences at the church from 9am until 9:45am on Wednesday. Interment at the Caribou Veteran's Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
