Obituary

FORT KENT - It is with great sadness that the family of Eva (Caron) Deschaine announces her passing on December 21, 2023, at the age of 107 and nine months. Eva was born at Little Black Lake, the only daughter of Laurent and Lydia (Gagnon) Caron on March 13, 1916. Eva grew up to a loving family with her three brothers, Leo (Lily), Lawrence (Edna), and Alcide (Yvonne) on a small family farm "au Ti Lac Noir". It was the "Old Days" with no running water, no electricity, an outhouse, and horse and buggy for transportation.  Eva married another "Ti Lac Noir" boy, Emile Deschaine, and together they had 10 children. Emile and Eva would also enjoy 55 years of wonderful marriage. Although work was hard on the farm, they were happy being together with their children. Then came the Depression and they lost their farm. The family then moved to Fort Kent where Emile worked for other farmers. After all the children were in school, Eva started to work to earn extra money to pay the bills. Eva worked on the second shift at Princess Kent making children's pajamas. She then went to work as a cook for the school lunch program at SAD 27. She retired from the school department after 21 years of cooking for thousands of community children.  She was a proud member of the VFW and joined the Fort Kent Ladies of St. Anne in 1948.  After Emile died in 1987, she moved to elderly housing at Park Circle. She would remain there until 2017 when she moved to CrossWinds. For six and a half years Eva resided at Crosswinds where she was loved and enjoyed the days of playing Bingo and enjoying all the other actives.  Eva leaves behind seven of her children Roger (Patricia d.) of Fort Kent, Joan Pimentel (John d) of Fort Kent, Jackie Raymond (Roger d) of Bristol CT, Shirleen of Bristol CT, Anna Mae Raymond (Don) of Fort Kent, Rinette Nadeau (Yves) of Fort Kent, and Philip (Linda) of Bristol CT.  Eva was predeceased by her loving husband Emile J. Deschaine,  one daughter, Yvette; two sons Richard (Yvonne) and Carroll, a special grandson Desi Deschaine, special nephew Walley Caron, and special nephew and niece Eddie and Marie Deschaine.  Eva was the matriarch of a five generation of girls on both the Raymond and Nadeau side; 13 grand-children; 21 great grand-children and 7 great, great grand-children.  A special Thank You goes out to all the staff at Crosswinds for taking excellent care of our loving mother. Thank You goes out to all the Crosswinds residents who became family and friends. A special Thank You goes out to Anna Mae who took care of Eva and Emile for all the years.  Eva will always be remembered for being calm, quiet, caring, a good harmonica player, a good Charlemagne player, and especially a good cook. The door was always open and everyone always enjoy a meal, especially her ployes. And living to the age of 107, she made many stacks of ployes.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the St. Louis Church.  Relatives and friends may call at Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday and from 8:30am until 9:30am on Wednesday before the Mass.  Spring interment will take place in the Parish cemetery.
