Obituary

Heavens gates have opened, the Lord extended an invitation, and Evelyne graciously accepted. Evelyne J. Monahan, 95 years, passed peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2015 in Van Buren. She was born on September 8, 1919 in Danby, Vermont, a daughter of the late George and Daisy (Dunbar) McLellen. She was employed as a waitress for many years and also worked extremely hard as a farmer's wife. As a side job she also worked as a seamstress from her home. Evelyne lived a long, full life centered around her family. She loved doing special crafting projects and found crocheting especially relaxing. She enjoyed telling her grandchildren stories of the old days about when she was a child growing up and about different events that have happened over the ages and they were eager to listen. The outdoors is where she could be found when she wasn't crafting. She has watched her children grow, her grandchildren grow, and was enjoying her great grandchildren discover life. She is no longer with her family now and somehow there is peace. Peace knowing that cancer has not beaten her, has not claimed her, but she has claimed cancer and has beat it. Not feeling well did not define her, nor did it stop her from smiling, loving, and just being joyful. She took every day by the hand and led it down her own path, making each day more special than the last. Take the time to tell your loved ones how you feel, that you love them, and appreciate all they do for you. We take for granted the time they are here with us and wish when they leave this world that we could have that time back. Always remember that near or far, family is the key to life, and without it our hearts remained locked to love. The family would like to say a special thank you too all the nurses, CNA's, and other staff at Borderview Rehab and Living Facility for taking care of Evelyne when the family was no longer able and also for their kind words of solace in their time of grief. Evelyne is lovingly remembered by: her children, Geraldine of Vermont, Myron and his wife Monica of Vermont, Barbara and her husband David of New York, Bernard of Massachusetts, and Bernice and her companion Robert of Maine; her 17 grandchildren; an abundance of great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family Besides her parents, Evelyn is predeceased by: her husband Bennedict; her children Margerie and Daisy; and her brothers Harold, Raymond "Uncle Happy," and William. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to http://www.gofundme.com/teh24v4v , a fund created to assist in offsetting expenses of her private funeral.
