Van Buren--- Evelyn I. Rutherford, 93, peacefully entered into rest April 8, 2024, at a Caribou hospital. She was born August 5, 1930, in Caribou, a daughter of the late John and Laura (Corey) McGlinn.
A dedicated homemaker, Evelyn cherished raising her family, caring for her husband, and delighted as her family grew with the addition of her many grandchildren. She volunteered with Aroostook Area Agency on Aging for over 26 years and worked with Meals on Wheels. Evelyn loved working with her hands and tended to her flower beds around her yard and many projects.
She is survived by five children, Connie Bell of No. Carolina, Debbie Fields and her husband Peter of Arizona, Laurie Manero and her husband Ken of So. Carolina, Jeffrey Rutherford and his wife Kathy of Massachusetts, and Scott Rutherford and his wife Michele of No. Carolina; two siblings, Dale McGlinn of Caribou and Joan Carrier of So. Carolina; eight grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Sterling Rutherford in 2002, and six siblings Geneva Flannery, Nason McGlinn, Norma O'Reilly, Carl McGlinn, Philip McGlinn and James McGlinn.
A graveside service will be celebrated at 1 PM on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Lombard Road, Caribou. Donations in Evelyn's name may be made to: Maine Veterans Home- Caribou, 163 Van Buren Rd. Suite #2, Caribou, ME 04736 Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
