Madawaska--- Fernand "Mickey" Lavoie, 78, passed unexpectedly November 24, 2024. He was born June 24, 1946 in Green River, NB, Canada, a son of the late Lionel and Lina (Rioux) Lavoie.
Mickey was drafted into the US Army in 1966 and served overseas during the Vietnam War, where he was injured during combat. Upon his return stateside, Mickey took work with former Fraser Paper, now Twin Rivers, where he became a master pipefitter and retired after 38 years in 2008. Mickey was an avid sports fan and coached his sons' local baseball and minor hockey teams. Mickey loved golfing and was a member of Long Lake Country Club. When he wasn't trying to hit a hole-in-one, he enjoyed touring the St. John Valley on his beloved motorcycle.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Gemma (Albert) Lavoie of Madawaska; three sons, Paul Lavoie of St. David, Michel Lavoie of Eliot, and Danny Lavoie and his companion Malika Gagne of St. Basile, NB; eight siblings, Claudette Lesko and her husband Bill of Florida, Bernadette Fongemie and her husband Gerald of St. David, Patsy Lavoie, Jean-Paul Lavoie and his wife Diane, Nicole Laroque, Gilles Lavoie and his wife Aldea, Denise Tardif and her husband Arthur, all of Canada; six grandchildren, Nathan, Lindsey, Jakob, Krystelle, Alicia, and Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mickey was predeceased by four siblings, Quentin Lavoie, Carmen Thibodeau, Noella Lavoie and Rolande Martin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, December 6, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Relatives and friends may greet the family Friday morning 9 – 9:45 AM at the church. Interment will be in Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home 114 – 10th Ave., Madawaska.
