MADAWASKA--George R. Dugal, 80, was deeply involved in the Cressio Movement and entered his 5th day on October 15, 2018 at EMMC in Bangor, Maine.  He was born in St. Agatha on December 9, 1937 to George Emile Dugal and Germaine (Boucher) Dugal.  George grew up in St. Agatha, Maine where he attended elementary school.  His first two years of high school were spent at St. Francis College in Biddeford, Maine.  He then returned to St. Agatha's Notre-Dame de la Sagesse to graduate high school in 1957.  After graduating, he served two years in the Army from 1958 to 1960.  He worked at Fraser Paper in the Technical Department for eight years following his return from the Army.  He left Fraser Paper to attend New Hampshire College, now the University of Southern New Hampshire, where he graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  He worked for the St. John Valley Security Home in Madawaska for six years before becoming the owner of what became High View Manor until present.  George was committed to his community which he loved.  During his many years of service to his community, he served as a Town Selectman for 3 years, serving as Chairman of the Board for his last year; was Director of the Chamber of Commerce for 5 years; was Director of Aroostook County Federal Savings and Loan for 12 years; served as the director of the Maine Health Care Association for 3 years; and served as a member of the Federal Housing Management.  He received his Nursing Home Administrator's License in 1973 and worked as the Administrator at High View Manor for 25 years.  He was instrumental in procuring the Jaws of Life for the Madawaska Fire Department and he was the founder of Valley Home Health Services.  He was part owner of Wisdom House from 1980 to 1993.  He also owned Country Village Estates in Madawaska and Crest View Manor in Houlton, Maine until present.  George was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and Legionnaire.  He is survived by his deeply cherished wife of 55 wonderful years, Ginette Proulx of Edmundston, New Brunswick; his two children Louis G. Dugal and wife Renee of Madawaska, and Denise Astle and husband Ricky of Orono; his beloved grandchildren Erin Beaulieu and husband Nathan, Kelley Daigle and husband Craig, and Jenna, and step grandchildren Chad Astle and Amanda (Astle) Gray; one great granddaughter Brielle Beaulieu; two brothers Cecil Dugal of Madawaska and Jim Dugal of St. Agatha, and two sisters Raymonde Vanier of Quebec and Roberta Perron and husband Louis of Lewiston, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents George and Germaine Dugal, two brothers Gabriel and Gilles, and a sister Pierrette (Dugal) Fullum.  During his lifetime, George never ceased to try new ventures, believing in hard work and self-reliance.  He never let his limitations affect his attitude, his relationships with others, or his love of life.  George taught us all about courage and kindness through his determination and good humor.  He was a persistent, solid, and determined person; he was also practical, reliable, joyous, and dynamic with a wonderful sense of humor.  He had an especially generous heart and was a loyal friend to many. He loved spending time up in the Allagash at his camp with the family where he enjoyed to hunt, fish, and play cribbage.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church.  Family and friends may offer their condolences on Friday from 4pm to 8pm at Lajoie Funeral Home, Madawaska.  There will be no visiting hours on Saturday morning before the service.  Interment will take place at a later date at the Caribou VA Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Dr., Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
