IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Georgene
Rafford
January 21, 1935 – December 31, 2020
Ashland--- Georgene E. Rafford, 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 31, 2020. She was born January 21, 1935 in Ashland, a daughter of the late Henry and Cecile (Charette) Clark.
Georgene was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, Ashland, and a member of over 65 years of Our Lady of the Snows Ladies' Sodality. A lifelong resident of Ashland, she worked many local jobs, including former Jimmo's Grocery, former Chasse's Department Store, and cleaning for former Kelley's Lumber, the medical clinic and former Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home. She loved her husband and adored her family, especially when her grandchildren and great grandchildren would visit.
One of the hobbies she enjoyed was making ceramics which she did for many years and many people. She was a serious Elvis Presley fan and any time one of his movies was shown at the Braden Theatre she would pack up all the kids and take them to the show. The kids just loved the treats.
She is survived by: four children, Clark Rafford and his wife Deborah of Ashland, Joanna Richards of Presque Isle, Cyndi Johansen and her husband Daniel of Wellington, CO, and Theresa "Tess" Rafford of Lancaster, PA; 12 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Georgene was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Donald Rafford Jr, in 2014, and four siblings, Irene Libby, Lille Boykin, Gladys Wright, and Wilson Clark.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of Georgene's family, and she will be laid to rest with her late husband in Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St./PO Box 39, Ashland. In lieu of any flowers please make donations to the Lady of the Snows Sodality in Ashland or to the Caribou Rehab and Nursing Home.
