Madawaska---Gerald (Gerry) Cyr 74, passed away on March 31, 2020 at his home in Madawaska surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Grand Isle on  August 22, 1945, son of the late Rosaire and Alma Cyr and raised by Claude and Laura Ouellette.  Gerry worked at Fraser Papers for 42 years as machine tender on the #8 machine.  He was known by many as "grand noir."  He was a member of the American Legion Post #147 of Madawaska.  Gerry was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.  He always looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Les Escoumins with his fishing buddies.  He also enjoyed spending the winter months in Mexico, soaking up the sun and walking on the beach.  He enjoyed going on walks with his granddaughters and baking delicious treats with them. Gerry will be most remembered for his heart of gold, great advice, and loving nature.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.  He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Gaetane (Ouellet) Cyr of Madawaska; two daughters, Vicki Deschaine and her husband Kevin D. of Madawaska, Laurie Cyr and her husband Jason also of Madawaska.  He was the proud "Pepere" of three beautiful granddaughters, Peyton Cyr, Alayna and Ciara Deschaine all of Madawaska.  He is also surived by one sister, Rowena Macomber of Windsor, CT; two brothers, Edmond Cyr of Jacksonville, FL, and Roger Cyr of Wolcott, CT; two special sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by three brothers, Roland Cyr, Chanel Cyr, and Clarence "Bob" Cyr.  Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10am, at St. Thomas church. Family and friends may offer their condolences at the church from 9am-9:45am.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gerry's memory may be made to Edgar J. Paradis Fund, 194 East Main St., Fort Kent, ME 04743.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie Funeral Home.
