Castle Hill--- Gerald "Jerry" Montpetit, 82, peacefully passed into the arms of his Savior Sunday evening, December 9, 2018, with his loving family at his side. He was born March 18, 1936 in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of the late Theadore and Elizabeth (Mills) Montpetit.
Shortly after completing high school, Jerry enlisted with the US Air Force. He served all over the world during the Korean and Vietnam Wars during his more than 20 years in the military, and achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant while stationed at Loring Air Force Base before his retirement. One of his proudest moments was being awarded the Airman's Medal on June 27, 1970. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Even after retiring from his long-term military service, Jerry continued to keep himself busy with various jobs in the area, including Maine Forest Service, Sheriff's Department, and a local bank. During his spare time, Jerry loved to drive and could be spotted navigating up and down Route 11, and sometimes a quick roadside stop to snack on some freshly picked berries.
He is survived by: his wife Geni (Roope) Libby Montpetit of Castle Hill; two sons, Mitch G. Montpetit and his wife Connie of Presque Isle, and Mike G. Montpetit and his wife Monique of Ashland; a step son, Chris Libby and his wife Heather of So. Carolina; one brother, Wayne Montpetit and his wife Joanne of New York; a sister-in-law, Rosemary Montpetit of New York; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Donna (Lane) Montpetit, a step-son, Dustin Libby, and four siblings.
A funeral service will be celebrated at 1 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at the Ashland Advent Christian Church, 42 Exchange St., Ashland, with Pastor Bill Harris officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family Saturday morning from 11 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
