Obituary
Hamlin --- Gerard R. Parent, 92, died in Caribou on Feb. 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 28, 1925 in Hamlin, the son of the late Joachim and Lottie (Paradis) Parent.
He grew up on the family farm and was a successful potato and grain farmer. He proudly earned the Top Ten Champion Grower award in 1983. Gerard married Isabel McCrossin on June 26, 1945. After 66 years of loving marriage and raising their family she passed away on September 6, 2011. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree Assembly, Van Buren, local School Board member, former Selectman of the Town of Hamlin, and a life-long parishioner of St. Joseph Church.
He is survived by seven children, Ken Parent of St. Clair Shores, MI, Gerri (Ralph) Ronco of Sidney, Roberta Allen of Haverhill, MA, Rudy (Dinah) Parent, Tim Parent, Bill (Lisa) Parent, and Denise Martin, all of Hamlin; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Conde) Thibodeau of Bourne, MA and Rose-Marie Santarcangelo of Bennington, VT.
Besides his parents, Gerard was predeceased by his wife, a son, Rick, a son-in-law, Wayne Martin, a granddaughter, Sierra Parent, and nine siblings, Lawrence, Florine, Artheline, Edwin, Rita, Lucille, Angela, Carolyn and Harold.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hamlin Road, Hamlin, with father David Cote officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family Friday 6-8:00 PM and Saturday morning 9-10:30 AM at the church. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
