August 6, 1936 – September 30, 2019
Van Buren--- Germaine R. Laplante, 83, peacefully entered into rest on Monday, September 30, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 6, 1936, in Edmundston, NB, Canada, a daughter of the late Albert and Angelina (St. Onge) Roussel, and beloved wife of 24 years to the late Thomas J. Laplante, who died October 19, 1980.
Germaine was employed at many various places in Van Buren, including Van Buren Town Office, former Grant's Store, Raymond's Mens' Clothing, Saucier's IGA, and a French teacher's aide for Van Buren Schools. During her limited spare time, she enjoyed crochet, knitting and sewing, donating much of her crafts to her family members, friends, and local organizations. Her passion was to cook and bake for her visiting family and friends, and was well known for her delicious apple pies, baked beans and doughnuts. Germaine was a devout Catholic and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church.
She is survived by: five children, Anne Laplante of Portland, Helen Searl and her husband Peter of Wesleyville, PA, Monique Laplante of Donna, TX, Denise Maynard and her husband Brent of Louisa, KY, and George Laplante and his wife Cathy of Van Buren; five siblings, Jacqueline Albert of Frenchville, Rachel McAskill of NB, Canada, Gilles Roussel of NB, Canada, Yvon and Robert Roussel of QC, Canada; four grandchildren, Jessica Evans and her husband Donald, Eric Laplante, Emily and Lucas Maynard ; a very special friend, Pearl Rowland; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four siblings, Maurice and Jacques Roussel, Jeanine Daigle and Rina Ouellette.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, October 4, 2019, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Main St., Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family Friday morning 9-9:45 AM at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Germaine's name may be made to: Knights of Columbus Parish Needs Fund, 284 Main St., Van Buren, ME 04785. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
